ACUTE EFFECT OF CYPERMETHRIN ON NUTRIENT UTILIZATION AND HISTOPATHOLOGY OF CLARIAS GARIEPINUS (BURCHELL, 1822)

The toxicity of cypermethrin (a pesticide) on fingerlings African catfish, Clarias gariepinus was investigate with emphasis histopathological effects. juvenile were exposed to 0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0ppb under experimental condition. growth, nutrient utilization feed parameters (Weight gain, Average Daily Weight Gain, Percentage Gain , Specific Growth Rate Feed Intake ,Feed Conversion Ratio Protein not significantly different(P>0.05) at the different concentration. However, changes observed gills liver fish. In gills, filament cell proliferation, cellular infiltration, haemorrhage gill damage observed. liver, there vacuolation hepatocytes necrosis. no observable histological change in intestine various concentrations exposure. Respiratory stress, erratic swimming instant death fish fish, which varies concentration toxicant it showed that mortality increased increase This study concluded Cypermethrin is highly toxic therefore should be avoided aquatic ecosystem.
